MARE CARE AND FOALING SERVICES
|

Mare Care: starting at 10 months gestation and continuing through the third month postpartum or until weaning. Includes supplements & 6# grain. Stall is cleaned twice a day and feeding is three times a day.

Foal Care Program: foals will be hand fed twice daily for the first two weeks and graduate to a free feed foal feeder (creep type). They will be fed a special controlled protein pellet designed for foal development. Extra hay will also be provided.

Foaling: includes straw bedding provided prior to and after foaling, observation of, and when needed, involvement in the delivery of the foal, toweling foal and clearing of mucus, collection and visual examination of the placenta, treatment to the navel, administration of an enema to the foal, a warm bran mash for the mare, notification to the veterinarian.

Halter Training: at the end of the first 60 days, the foal will accept the halter, and lead. (all foal training is done through a gentle, positive reinforcement method. All training is done to encourage responsiveness to human requests and enhance future trainability.)
